Hi folks,

The Event is due back on our tv screens on monday night in the uk, channel 4, 10pm.  The Event is a high-octane US thriller starring Jason Ritter as a man whose investigation into the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée unwittingly exposes the biggest cover-up in American history…

Basically it is about a group of extraterrestrials, some of whom have been detained by the United States Government for sixty-six years since their ship crashed in Alaska, while others have secretly assimilated among the general populace.

President Elias Martinez (played by Blair Underwood) learns of the facility’s existence shortly after his inauguration and decides, after meeting the leader of the detainees, to release them and disclose their existence to the world over the objections of the intelligence agencies. His plans are put on hold when an assassination attempt on him is foiled by means beyond human technology. The CIA realizes there are other aliens and secretly plans to find and kill them. Unknown to the agency, the agent chosen to head the effort is himself an alien. The aliens are divided internally on how to respond to this.

Caught in the middle of these events is Sean Walker, whose plans to propose to his girlfriend Leila on a Caribbean cruise are cut short when she mysteriously disappears from the ship. His investigation eventually leads him to uncover the assassination plot and then the alien involvement.

Here is a trailer in case you missed it….

The Event has been on a winter break, as for some unknown reason channel 4 decided to finish the series half way through back in December on episode 10!! Why, is a question that comes to mind. But now the three-month wait is nearly over, as The Event returns to Channel 4 with a special two-hour premiere!

If you can remember, many moons ago, when we last left Sean and Leila, they had just discovered that her father Michael is in fact one of the mysterious sleepers. As the story continues, the pair continue their hunt for Leila’s sister Samantha and learn more about the alien conspiracy! Meanwhile, Virginia Madsen makes her debut as Catherine Lewis, an Alaskan senator who has uncovered government secrets related to Inostranka. Will the alien cover-up finally be exposed, or can President Martinez convince her to keep Quiet? And will we find out what the message was that the aliens sent back to their home world at the end of episode 10.

When this first started I was very intrigued but now I am not so sure I can be bothered.  The break hasn’t helped! It was a good show with some good effects but there was just too much happening to keep up with. The main problem is, simply put, that the show has too many main characters, which leads to multiple storylines progressing at too slow a pace. And this results with a lot happening in each episode to keep up with. But that’s just my humble opinion.  Maybe the next 10 episodes will be different, I don’t know.

What do you think, have you seen the Event, and will you be watching rest of the series when it starts on monday night. Let me know your opinions.
