About Me

Hi World,

My name is Darren Derbyshire and I have stage 5 kidney failure. In 2016 I had a Kidney Transplant which did not work as well as I expected because the donor kidney had vascular disease.

This blog is for my personal reflections on My life, my illness, the universe and everything in between…..

In 2015 I attempted the kidney45challenge. What is the kidney 45 challenge? I hear you asking… Well I attempted 45 challenges during the year to raise awareness for kidney disease and organ transplantation. And also to raise money for the British Kidney Patient Association who do wonderful work for those affected by kidney disease. I completed 35 challenges before my health prevented me from doing any more.

I hope my blog appeals to all ages and backgrounds of people who have an interest in hearing  about my life and my illness.

If you want to get in touch with me, then please feel free to leave me a message in the comments field of this blog, or drop me a line via Linkedin or twitter (links to Linkedin and Twitter are shown below).

Well, what shall I write…..I guess I will tell you a bit about myself.

I am 45!!! married and have a 7 year old son who is full of life and energy.

I enjoy spending time with my family.

I have been doing a number of things for past several years.  But now do less because of my illness.

My other interests include trying to keep fit (although this is very difficult as I get fatigued very easily), doing youtube videos, solving puzzles, computing, writing poems and novels, and everything to do with science fiction and horror. Reading is another of my interests, especially biographies, fantasy, science fiction and horror novels (favourite authors include Steven King, Dean Cootz and J.R.R. Tolkien).

Anyway, that’s about it really. I can’t think of anything else at the moment. So please read and comment on my blog posts.
